About the Canadian Mountain Network
Working together to better understand, manage and honor our mountains
Prior to 2016 International Mountain Day had not been publicly celebrated in Canada. Members of the mountain research community noticed Canada's missing participation and wanted to use International Mountain Day to bring awareness to Canada's current and future mountain research initiatives and to celebrate Canada's breath-taking mountain ranges and diverse mountain cultures.
The Canadian Mountain Network is proud to have put the first pin on the map for Canada on International Mountain Day!
What is the Canadian Mountain Network?
The Canadian Mountain Network (CMN) is a voluntary alliance of numerous partners from universities, governments, First Nations and businesses dedicated to the sustainability of mountain environments and communities across the country and around the world.
Established in 2016, the CMN is in the early stages of establishing a forum for collaboratively addressing the diverse challenges facing mountain regions by harnessing existing capacities and seeking new resources. Over the next 18 months, the CMN will lead the preparation of a national Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE) proposal.
