Event Description

A special film screening from the Hans Gmoser film collection, "Vagabonds of the Mountains" (1959-1960). Introductory comments by Joseph F. Patrouch, director of the Wirth Institute for Austrian and Central European Studies

In “Vagabonds of the Mountains” Gmoser celebrates the free-spirited mountain existence — no responsibilities, no money, patched clothes, but the freedom to climb, ski, and enjoy life!

Speaker Biography

Joseph F. Patrouch is an affiliated member of the Canadian Mountain Studies Initiative at UAlberta and a co-applicant of the successful three-year KIAS-funded cluster grant "Sustaining Mountain Cultures in the Canadian West". Outside his frequent collaborations with the Canadian Mountain Network and his work on a project relating to the mountain histories of Salzburg, Austria, he is also the Director of the Wirth Institute for Austrian and Central European Studies and a professor in the Department of History and Classics at the University of Alberta.
